Tensoft Expands its Reach Beyond its Fabless Roots with These Agreements
SAN JOSE, CA – December 11, 2007 — Tensoft, a leading end-to-end ERP and supply chain solution provider for the semiconductor industry, announced today two new customers for its Tensoft Fabless Semiconductor Management (FSM) software. iWatt, Inc., a leader in digital power conversion IC technology and SEMICOA, a leading designer and developer of small signal and power transistors for high-reliability military/aerospace and commercial markets, will implement Tensoft FSM software to increase profitability, improve customer service and manage production with greater visibility and control. Both companies are examples of the evolution taking place in the support Tensoft offers to the changing global semiconductor industry.
One part of Tensoft’s evolution is broader support for the variety of business models semiconductor companies are using today. “We’re seeing a significant increase in the variety of approaches used in the industry — semiconductor companies that are also software companies, semiconductor companies that are also IP licensing companies, or semiconductor companies that incorporate their chips into boards or modules as sellable products, not just as samples. These are not incidental parts of their business today — they are strategies for going to market more quickly and profitably,” explained Bob Scarborough, Tensoft CEO. “These companies, like iWatt, not only have significant fabless operations requirements — they also require support for non-traditional semiconductor revenue management and production processes as well.”
“Because iWatt consists of both a power management IC business and a wholly owned subsidiary that manufactures power-conversion modules, we need to manage both an Inverted Bill of Materials for fabless production and a Bill of Materials for discrete manufacturing,” said iWatt V.P. Operations, Alex Sinar. “Tensoft has been able to help us address this in a systematic, scalable approach. We consider this to be a critical success factor for iWatt’s growth, particularly as our production volume continues to ramp.”
A second part of Tensoft’s evolution is expanded support for internal as well as external manufacturing. “The semiconductor industry is moving toward the fabless production model — but there is still need for in-house production as well,” Tensoft’s Scarborough continues. “We support manufacturing execution as well as supply chain functionality, so we have always been able to support detailed lot tracking and production transactions. In fact, our customer base includes companies that do portions of their production process internally, like SEMICOA, as well as companies that utilize the Tensoft FSM vendor portal to support smaller outsourced production vendors’ integration into the overall manufacturing process.”
“SEMICOA selected Tensoft to support its high reliability semiconductor IDM business over other ERP-MES systems because of the industry knowledge, experience and value offered by Tensoft’s complete and well established solution,” said SEMICOA CEO Perry Denning. “Other ERP software systems lacked the understanding of the semiconductor’s Inverted Bill of Materials that the Tensoft solution is configured to address. Tensoft has a capable, proven, and cost effect product that addresses our current demands and expected future needs. We are confident that Tensoft will enable SEMICOA to continue to grow to new records in revenue and profitability, providing our customers with industry leading products and services.”
