Transfer orders in Tensoft SemiOps support inventory moved internally from one location to another. Unlike a simple transfer transaction, transfer orders give you full shipping support. They allow shipping documents like commercial invoices, packing slips, shipping labels, and so on to be generated. Transfer orders can be used for any parts you need to move from one location to another will full shipping documentation support.
The Transfer order uses existing data in SemiOps like the shipping information and the shipping locations. It can be used to move inventory between your own company locations. It can also be used to move inventory between your location and your vendor location. For example, you have a supplier organization that receives packaged die from you and adds it to a sample board for a product development kit. You need to send them the product from your location for them to use in the assembly – this is not a sale, but shipping documentation is required.
Another scenario where transfer orders can be useful is if you have a vendor who creates a finished good and ships it back to your warehouse for storage, and that vendor does not have appropriate tools to support the shipment. You’ll help them generate the appropriate shipping documentation, and will track the inventory moving, receiving it when it reaches your location.
A useful variable with transfer orders is that you can assign a Status for the inventory – if the inventory is released or being quarantined. If the shipped inventory is in transit, you can mark it as in-transit and it will appear on the receiving screen before it can be made available for orders.
To summarize, transfer orders could be between your own inventory locations, between your own inventory location and a third-party logistics location, and between you and your vendors.
