As I mentioned in my previous blog post, work life at Tensoft is always exciting and full of surprises. This summer was no different. My project over the summer was to assist in the design and launch of the new Tensoft website alongside all of my digital marketing duties. I was actively involved in the planning, development and migration of content to the new website via a content management system.
Connecting with your visitors, and effective communication are integral components of website design. The interface has to be simple, user-friendly and able to guide the information-seeking visitor instantly. The daunting task of combining design aesthetics with functionality (customer login, member’s only content, different forms) was challenging as well as motivating. Timing was of utmost importance and required co-ordination between different teams: Tensoft’s IT department, our old and new web hosting providers, etc.
A structured approach of outlining tasks for all 3 phases – pre-launch, during the launch and post-launch phase – of the new website formed the basis of this project. The end goal was to launch the new website with least amount of downtime and retain the SEO during and after the migration.
The entire process involved knowing, understanding and implementing lot of technical aspects. It inspired me to learn and adopt the necessary skills, like some HTML and CSS programming. Having worked at Tensoft for almost a year, I am familiar with web analytics. Building on that experience, this was the perfect opportunity for me to utilize my design and SEO knowledge to create those perfect landing pages that are visually attractive as well as having great content.
Apart from technical knowledge, this project reinforced the importance of strategic planning and thinking for me. I was able to hone my project management skills as well. The detailed breakdown of the tasks, and making sure they were tracked and completed as per the plan was very important. This assured a smooth transition process with least amount of inconvenience to the visitors and valuable customers.
This was an opportunity to push myself beyond my comfort zone, and add some career-building skills, both technical and soft. While working on this project, I got the opportunity to wear different hats ranging from digital marketer to web designer to graphic designer. The end result is an amazing website that I’m proud to have been a key contributor to, and new skills to add to my resume.
